An item I was bidding on did not close at the original time it stated. Instead, the closing time kept extending 4 minutes longer. Why does this happen? |

When listing an auction item, the seller determines how long they wish the auction to run for. The closing time and the period left to run is both clearly displayed on the main screen of the Auction item. To ensure that your Auction Ending is accurately displayed, you will need to check your Regional Settings. If a bid is received in the last 4 minutes of the published Time of Closing of an auction, then the Time Remaining will be extended 4 minutes from the time of that bid to permit a counter bid. This extension will also extend the Time of Closing and Time Remaining displayed on the page. If there is a bid placed within 4 minutes left of that extended time the Time Remaining will be extended again by 4 minutes, and the displayed Time Closing and Time Remaining will be adjusted. This will continue until no more bids are placed. If there are no bids placed after the last extension of time then the highest bidder will win the auction. This process intends to allow the counter bidder user sufficient time to enter a new incremental bid or proxy bid, and therefore creates a fair platform for competitive bidding. If there are no bids placed in the last four minutes of an auction then the time will close as per Time of Closing displayed. The times extended may on occasion deviate incrementally due to time to take bidding etc. If this does occur Bartercard does not accept any responsibility. E-mails are dispatched by the Auction to notify bidders of any out bidding. There is no reason why an auction cannot extend for some time if two or more users are actively bidding. |
